Chairman of National Business Group Pakistan, President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, and All Karachi Industrial Alliance, and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain said on Wednesday that the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Qazi Faiz Isa, has taken commendable steps as soon as he took charge.
A full court session has been held after a while, and the proceedings have been watched by millions of people on TV, giving hope to the public and the business community, he said.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that improving the judicial system through reforms and restoring the public’s trust in this institution will be his big test, in which the Chief Justice will succeed, insha’Allah.
Talking to the business community, the veteran business leader said that Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is striving for transparency and accountability in the justice system, and he wants to end the cases pending for years so that the people can get relief.
The business leader said that the Chief Justice should deal with revenue cases and litigation on business disputes on a priority basis, as capital and revenue worth trillions of rupees are stuck in these cases and the business community is also in a dilemma.
The judgment of these cases will either provide relief to the businessmen and industrialists who filed the cases or generate revenue for the government, both of which are not happening at present, he observed.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that if those who file false cases are given severe punishment, then the trend of useless litigation can be ended, while some people harass those who invest in property and other sectors by taking stay orders for no reason, which needs to be stopped.
Various institutions and laws are discouraging investment instead of promoting it, due to which the country has reached this situation. The Supreme Court should review the entire situation, prepare a detailed report, and work with the government to improve things.
Mian Zahid Hussain further said that the superior judiciary should be kept away from politics, which will improve the working of the institution and restore the confidence of the people because involvement in politics gives birth to factionalism that affects the reputation of the institution.
He said that the people and the business community hope that Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will try to provide cheap and quick justice to the masses and will make efforts for human rights.
