President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), President All Karachi Industrial Alliance (AKIA), Senior Vice Chairman of the Businessmen Panel of FPCCI and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Friday said Homeopathy is highly scientific, logical, safe, and effective method of healing the diseases as it offers long lasting and permanent cure therefore it must be promoted.
The good aspect of the homeopathy treatment is that it is capable of curing a person completely and there are no side-effects from this mode of treatment, he said.
Talking to the officials of Homeopathic Pharmaceuticals and Chemists Association Pakistan, he said that this system of medicine is recognised by World Health Organization but it is not getting due attention in Pakistan.
Currently there are over fourteen thousand organised and informal units in this sector but there are no laws regarding registration, production, sale, distribution, standardization and pricing which has blocked development and exports, he added.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that unlike other countries there is no Research & Development in Pakistan while this sector has to pay higher taxes on import of raw material as compare to allopathic industry.
The local industry is still using more than 300 types of plants, minerals and raw material which are of imported origin that increases the cost of doing business.
Unani, Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic Practitioner Act 1965 does not cover necessary aspects of the business therefore it must be revisited, he demanded.
He said that the volume of Indian export of herbal medicines is over $ 45 billion which was double of its allopathic medicines exports and it has allocated Rs5.5 billion for research and development in this sector to further boost exports.
He also demanded the Govt. to reform this sector in consultation with Homeopathic Pharmaceutical and Chemists Association (HPCA) that will not only increase Exports but it will also provide quality healthcare.
