President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), President AKIA, First Vice Chairman of the Businessmen Panel of FPCCI and former Provincial Minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Monday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is transforming Karachi into one of the best cities in the region.

After improving law and order situation to a great extent the premier has focused on addressing Karachi’s transport woes for which masses and business community is feeling grateful, he added.

Mian Zahid Hussain said that inauguration of Rs 17 billion Green Bus Service is part of the plan of the government to provide transport facilities of international standard to the masses as these buses will serve ten million commuter per month.

He said that Karachi had around twenty two thousand mini buses in 2011 which are now been reduced to nine thousand adding to the problems of masses.

Transport experts say that Karachi require at least nine thousand large buses to bridge the gap between demand and supply which continue to take toll on masses with elderly and women most affected.

The current number of buses, mini buses, taxis etc. are insufficient to cater the needs of over twenty million inhabitants of the city, he said.

Mian Zahid Hussain demanded immediate allocation for construction and improvement of Lyari Expressway, Malir Expressway, and Karachi-Hyderabad motorway which will have a significant impact on masses as well as the economy.

He said that all the sections of motorway should be completed and government should also take steps to resolve issue of water and energy scarcity for which masses and the business community is paying heavy price.
